Elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 2022, Mary Beth Canty represents the 54th District of Illinois, which includes Arlington Heights, Palatine, and Prospect Heights, and portions of Buffalo Grove, Mt. Prospect, and Wheeling.

Canty is an attorney, specializing in insurance coverage and construction liability. She was elected to the Arlington Heights Village Board of Trustees in 2019. In 2020, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), a position she held until her election to the Illinois House. Mary Beth Canty earned a bachelor's degree from the College of William & Mary in 2003 and a law degree from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in 2006.

Canty is the daughter of a 24-year Navy veteran father, whose parents both have experience as small business owners. As such, Canty is a strong supporter of small businesses. Having attended public schools all the way through law school, Canty also understands the importance of public education. In addition, she has been a strong advocate for on social justice reform issues and a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

As a State Representative, Canty has passed legislation establishing full-day kindergarten in Illinois, improving wage transparency by posting pay ranges, and implementing a grocery store initiative to promote independent food grocers in food deserts.
